In this region a cover earns its keep through water and cleaning, not temperature. Closed, it blocks most surface evaporation and keeps storm dust out of the water — but no cover cools a pool in summer; comfort remains the chiller's job.
A closed slatted cover blocks most evaporation from the surface; the yearly saving depends on how many hours the pool actually stays covered. The argument is strongest for villas on tanker-delivered water.
With a tracked cover, storm dust settles on the slats instead of in the water — you rinse the cover instead of running the full vacuum, backwash and rebalance recovery.
No cover cools the water, and transparent bubble covers actively heat it. In winter (November–March) a closed cover helps the pool hold useful warmth; in summer, pair it with a chiller.

Opaque or slatted covers, not transparent bubble covers, which are built to add heat. A cover reduces evaporation and dust load; it does not cool the water. Chilled and winter-heated pools gain the clearest running-cost benefit.
